Howard Hughes
1905-1976
Businessman, pilot, movie director, one of the most financially successful - and eccentrically genius - men in the world and the aviation industry. He formed Hughes Aircraft in 1932 and spent the next years setting world air speed records. His flying creations included the H-1 Racer, the H-4 Hercules, famously nicknamed “The Spruce Goose”. Hughes was included in Flying Magazine’s list of the 51 Heroes of Aviation. In 1938, he set a triumph in aviation by completing a flight around the world in 91 hours in a Lockheed 14 Super Electra with a four-man crew, and received numerous awards including the Congressional Gold Medal. Here are signatures for the men who flew around the world in 1938: Howard Hughes, Pilot, Harry Connor, co-pilot, Thomas Thurlow, navigator, Edward Lund, flight engineer, and Richard Stoddard, radio operator. An extraordinary piece of certified aviation history.
