He fought during the Cold War in the Navy, commanding PT boats in the Pacific theater during World War II. While Senator, Kennedy published his book, Profiles in Courage, which won a Pulitzer Prize. He was America’s first Catholic President and was the first presidential candidate to have a debate on television, which was against incumbent Richard Nixon.
