The 1939 American Western film, Stagecoach, was John Wayne's breakthrough role, making it one of the most important of the he movies ever made. Stagecoach earned 5 Academy Award nominations and took two Oscars for that year. The movie was so dynamic that in 1995, it was deemed "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
