The U.S.S. General Ernst
Was a Squier Class Transport ship in World War II, named in honor of the Army general. Launched in 1943, She safely embarked more than 3,000 fighting men at Honolulu and transported troops to Guadalcanal. She was moored in position in Japan for the transport and support of Navy fighters. As part of the post-war "Magic-Carpet" fleet, she made six troop-rotation voyages out of San Pedro and Seattle to Japan, Korea, Okinawa, and Pearl Harbor. Here is an Imperium Neptuni Regis awarded to the U.S.S. General Ernst on September 13, 19944 and signed by her Commanding Officer, Captain R. W. Dole.
